Practice makes perfect, especially when that practice involves games! We have been using number lines, war, and dominoes to practice decimals.
We used some motivating math tools today for our intro to decimals lesson. I was impressed with how quickly students picked up the material, must have been the "love" baked into our decimal models.
We built boats in science. Our goal was to build a boat that would float and a boat that would sink. After testing the boats and seeing that all boats floated, we talked about the physical property of paper being less dense than water. Later we tested a watermelon and a grape. Ask your student what we discovered!
We did an experiment to compare the density of different liquids and other random items. Cool science! It was so exciting to see so many grandparents and parents today! Thank you so much for sharing part of your day with us! On Friday, we used our origami skills and brought some grasshoppers to life! Next we "taught" them how to jump and measured how far they went. A few grasshopper families "posed" for family pics! We solved division problems around the room then used our Chromebooks to scan QR codes to check our answers. It was exciting! In science we worked in learning groups to determine if questions were testable or not. We did our first experiment lab today and it was exciting! We were trying to find out how many drops of water would fit on the head or tail of a penny. We looked at the age of the pennies and other factors that would be variables in the experiment. |
