Over the last week, we have been working with a partner to research alternative energy sources that are replacing our dependence on fossil fuels. Once the research was completed, partners have been creating a PowToons presentation.
Today we hiked around Enchanted Rock, an approximately billion year old metamorphic pink granite done. It is exposed due to plate tectonics and the weathering away of layers of sedimentary limestone. Science at its finest! Today in class we built dinosaurs on a game through brainpop.com. The dinos had to be able to survive and catch prey or eat plants. This game can be played at home as well, the website is on the Links page of my website. I am so proud of what a family our classroom has built this year. Here's a pic of the students that were selected by their peers to receive an award for each of the seven habits we have been studying through Leader in Me. Way to go leaders! From left back row- Mrs. Reynolds, Mandy, Naya, Collin. From left front row- Eliana, Dominic, Grace, and Alyssa. Today, we were paleontologists as we rebuilt the skeleton of a scaphognathus crassirostris. It was difficult because we didn't know what the dinosaur looked like before we started! There were some wild ideas about where the bones should go. Some of our groups based their design on prior knowledge of other dinosaurs and other groups based their design on animals they were familiar with like dogs or unicorns. We were all surprised when we saw the correct placement of bones and learned the creature had wings! Here are some pics of our work. |
