Today at BPE we had a little dodgeball competition and I walked away with the trophy. It will be hanging on my door when you guys get back in January!! It was all luck, but hey, a champion is a champion!!
Today we got to see Eliana show off her dancing skills at the GADA holiday party! Great job Eliana! And then I hung out with Genesis and Sofia at indoor soccer! Good times with awesome kids! Today, we bravely got the sand back out to look at the destructive force of water. We were armed with eye droppers and our science journals. We dropped varying amounts of water on our sand dune and drew the resulting effects. Next I came around with cup of water and created a flood on the sand dunes and students drew the dramatic effects of a great amount of water. Finally, we built a water system to replicate a river emptying into an ocean and saw the creation of a delta through erosion and deposition. Today we take a VERY close look at how wind can cause erosion. We raced to move a sand dune from one end of a box to the other. We learned a great deal about the force and direction required to move sediment with wind only. We saw how the mass of sediment pieces can change how far or easily they travel. It was interesting that our "new" sand dune did not resemble our original sand dune. There were also some unexpected lessons about sand- how it can infiltrate well placed goggles and quickly cover every moderately close surface! I would say we got down to the nitty-gritty of this lesson! I have missed everyone! I was curious what everyone was doing during our break, comment and tell me. I have posted a few pics in case you guys couldn't wait to see me. Lol. See you guys Monday! Today we ventured into the great outdoors to look at real examples of weathering and erosion. We found lots of evidence of weathering and erosion and even deposition. One delta was located and almost destroyed by excited children. We thought science IN the classroom was fun, this was even better! |
