Today in math we worked on clarifying the relationships between quadrilaterals. Our main focus was identifying shapes that fall under the parallelogram subset and how rectangles, rhombi and squares are related.
We had a blast competing in Minute to Win It games during our party! Games were followed by great food and reading our valentines. We spent lots of time outside today creating sundials and tracing the changing shadow of a classmate. We also used flashlights in the classroom recreating the rotation of the Earth causing the sun to appear to rise in the east and set in the west. We saw long morning shadows shrink close to noon and stretch again in the afternoon. Today we used tangrams to jump start our geometry unit. Students tried to use all seven shapes to build a square. It was rough at first, but with a "few" hints everyone figured it out! Check out the Tangram link on my Links page to explore more.
Mr. Damron stopped by today to talk about RMS! He brought us Course Catalogs and Elective Choice Sheets. Lots of information about our upcoming middle school experience was discussed. Today we measured our height in cm and how high we can jump. Wednesday we are going to turn this data into a graph. We're going to work on choosing scales and intervals for our data. Today was an exciting day for data! |
